What's your business, and who are your customers?
Cracked Ego is a boutique print and creative studio based in Austin, Texas. We serve paper and textile goods to brands and artists.
Tell us about yourself
Founded in 2022, the studio is owned and operated by artist and silk screener Rob Green. It was started with the idea of combining Rob's decade of experience in silkscreening, digital printing, production management, and freelance creative work into a white-glove-focused home for awesome people to create and receive awesome art.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Adding a vinyl press partner! We are always looking to expand our offerings, but we want to be confident in the people we collaborate with. The search paid off!
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Weighing doing something for myself or hiring help. As someone who is just starting out, the budget can be tight. The urge is to do everything alone!
However, sometimes making less now makes you more in the future. Hiring qualified people to help with day-to-day tasks is an investment that scares me now and again, but it's a sound move.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Be prepared to market yourself as you've never marketed anything before. People aren't going to know what you do. Let 'em know!
- Customer service is paramount. I can never control what others are going to do, but the impact I leave on my clients is all me.
- Be willing to listen to what your audience actually wants. I sometimes get caught in the "I know better" trap. Take what your clients need and deliver it with ease and quality.
