Helping Individuals Transform Their Lives - CPEB Therapies
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health & wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ann Schnurr, Director of CPEB Therapies, located in Toronto, ON, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
CPEB Therapies offers psychotherapy to individuals and couples seeking to address emotional challenges in their lives. Our focus of care includes anxiety, depression, anger issues, chronic illness, and communication skills.
Tell us about yourself
I have always enjoyed helping people. After addressing challenges in my own life, I decided to study psychotherapy. I love being a psychotherapist journeying with my clients as they explore their concerns and develop skills and resolutions to their challenges. Each person's journey is unique, and thus, every day is a bit different.
My profession requires that I do continuing education, and it is fascinating to learn new approaches and the positive effects they can have on an individual's life.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I persevered and have grown immensely. As a therapist, you can only take your clients as far as you have grown yourself. So I continue to learn and explore both personally and professionally, and this is reflected in the service I offer my clients.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest challenge of being a business owner is that you are 100% responsible, and maintaining a healthy work/life balance can be difficult.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Visualize what you want, not your fears/worries.
- Plan your days, chunk your time, and have an accountability partner/mentor.
- Network, Network, Network.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
As an entrepreneur, you will be challenged by imposter syndrome. Know that you are not alone. Trust your gut and say "YES" to opportunities, even if they terrify you, and they will.
As Marianne Williamson states, "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frighten us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
A couple of other quotes I like from Joseph Campbell are: “Follow your bliss and the universe will open doors for you where there were only walls.” and "... as you go the way of life, you will see a great chasm. Jump. It is not as wide as you think.”
