Return to Doing What You Love - Cozy Physical Therapy
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Cindy Zhang, CEO of Cozy Physical Therapy, located in San Francisco, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, I provide services to the North Bay, East Bay, South Bay, and the Peninsula. I am an expert in physical therapy, MPS Therapy, pain management, and postpartum recovery. My passion lies in helping people of all ages through 1-on-1 personalized services so that they can be independent and active, returning to doing the things they love.
Tell us about yourself
A successful alternative physical therapist combines Chinese medicine with Western physical therapy. As a Chinese immigrant living in China for ten years during my childhood, I used to attend Tai Chi classes with my mom every day for our exercise routine. Ever since I was a little kid, I have learned much about Chinese medicine and various treatment methods, including qi (the underlying principle of energy in traditional Chinese medicine), acupuncture, cupping, and Tui-na.
An alternative physical therapist incorporates different skill sets, including chiropractic techniques, acupressure points, and massage. We focus more on hands-on and manual modalities to manipulate various areas of the body, such as the vertebrae of the spine and peripheral joints, to change incorrect alignment within the body.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
The biggest accomplishment as a business owner is to be able to survive the pandemic, expand, and retain quality is something I am most proud of. During the pandemic, we were not compelled to lay off anyone and, in fact, increased the number of employees on our payroll. This was not an easy task, but we were confident in our process, and it was successful. Finally, we were able to maintain a high level of consistency in the quality of our services and continue to help people increase mobility and stay away from medication.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
When you’re the CEO, you’re expected to be the go-to person for the entire business. This can often make you feel like you’re on an island all on your own. But you need to learn how to delegate more and create strong teams that you can trust. Getting the right people on board can help substantially. As a business owner, you need to be able to rely on your team to take care of things when you’re not there. Having a great support staff will allow you to spend more time doing the things that really matter as a CEO – growing your business and working on the vision.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Stay consistent, and never give up no matter what. We just need to find a solution to every problem.
- Start your day with meditation, writing down ideas, and exercising so you can have a fresh start.
- Have a great mindset and focus on your goals.
