Your Strategic Partner - Cornerstone Project Management

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in leadership development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Aaron Williamson, Managing Partner of Cornerstone Project Management, located in Tampa, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Cornerstone provides foundational leadership consultants to run projects, align strategy, and manage programs. We deploy PMP-certified project managers and business analysts to help your C-Suite execute value propositions and reduce operating costs.

Our team identifies best practices that create immediate value propositions for projects, and we will rescue failing projects that are out of control. Our customers span across the healthcare, engineering, IT, and business intelligence industries.

Tell us about yourself

The fluctuation in the program management offices we've been involved in highlighted the need to offer certified professionals on a zero-risk contract. When an industry is booming, the old way to staff was to hire W2 project managers to support development. Then when the budget disappears, corporations have to lay off staff.

This shouldn't be the case anymore. Between remote work and contracting, leveling staff should be a much easier process; hence, why we created Cornerstone Project Management.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I would love to say that our biggest accomplishment is one of our many satisfied clients who continually help us grow. But the truth is that our partnership with the Moth Foundation and our work with the Kids Beating Cancer is our greatest accomplishment so far.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Being a business owner has many challenges, but maintaining a healthy growth pace is the hardest right now. This is constrained by keeping qualified talent and by building trusting relationships with our clients. We don't view our business as transactional. We are in a relational business where trust is a key component.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Realize that there is never enough time to do everything perfectly.
  2. Choose your core values carefully.
  3. Make time for family.
