Lumira Pelvic Health & Wellness - Cora Tomowich
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Cora Tomowich, Owner of Lumira Pelvic Health & Wellness, located in Calgary, AB, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a physiotherapist, and I own a clinic that specializes in Pelvic Health and Orthopedic Physiotherapy, Reflexology, Aromatherapy, and Intuitive Counseling. We treat clients of all ages and genders, many of whom are pregnant or in early postpartum recovery.
Additionally, we work with clients who experience acute or chronic pain, incontinence, constipation, sports injuries, sleep difficulties, digestive issues, are suffering from chronic illness, and/or are looking to support their existing medical care with complementary healing practices.
Tell us about yourself
I decided to become a physiotherapist after my uncle fell off a roof and was told by doctors that he would never regain normal arm function. After months of hard work with his physiotherapist, however, he finally returned to playing his accordion!
When I saw him play for the first time after his accident, I saw a smile on his face that warmed my heart. It was then that I promised to dedicate my life to bringing such smiles to others... And that's why I do what I do!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment and continued success is by helping clients achieve their personal wellness goals! At Lumira, this is done through our interdisciplinary skills and services, as well as our calming clinic space that helps one feel safe and supported throughout their healing journey.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing about being a business owner is being presented with unexpected obstacles and knowing how to find solutions creatively at the moment.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Use self-care strategies (like meditation, healthy eating, and exercise) to give your mind and body the strength and patience needed to overcome the day-to-day obstacles of growing a business.
- Ask for help from qualified professionals (accountants, lawyers, etc.) to help you navigate the provincial requirements for starting a small business.
- Remember why you started your business - and keep that vision in your heart on the tougher days!
