Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Amber Katz, Owner of CopyKatz, located in New York City, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I run a copywriting business for lifestyle clients and also write a beauty-focused newsletter called Things I Buy As A Civilian on Substack.

Tell us about yourself

I am a former financial copywriter and copyeditor, in addition to being one of the first beauty bloggers. I created my blog in 2006, which led to a copywriting and freelance magazine writing career. I love storytelling, and now I get to do it for some of the best-known brands in the country!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Writing the majority of Estée Lauder's marketing emails for three years. I'm proud to have a roster of clients that includes Fortune 500 companies in addition to scrappy startups.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The long hours and the ebb and flow of clients, especially during an economic downturn.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Start today! You can always shift along the way. Everyone is scared about buying their own health insurance. You just have to earn enough to pay for your health insurance! Full-time job security is a myth. You're more apt to lose all of your income when it's all coming from a single source. When you run a business, you have multiple clients (ideally), so if one terminates, there are many more where that came from.
