What's your business, and who are your customers?

Connected in Community is a mental health therapy practice that centers on social justice, equity, and inclusivity. Our customers are people who share this commitment and want to use therapy to help themselves understand how they can heal and connect with others.

Tell us about yourself

Professionally, I am a licensed clinical social worker, and following the pandemic lockdowns and the growth of the Black Lives Matter Movement, I wanted to create a space where the community could wrestle with the emotions that come from the realities of our society.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner has to be expanding from a one-woman operation into a multi-therapist practice and expanding to include massage services. It has been an intimidating process, but I'm excited for the opportunity to continue serving my community.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest part about being a business owner is balancing the realities and needs of my business with my role and responsibilities as a mother. I'm incredibly fortunate to have a supportive husband who has committed to making adjustments so that my dreams may come true.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

1. Understand your why- why are you doing this work? What is your motivation?
2. Build a support network around you. - Entrepreneurship can be a hard and lonely world.
3. Dare to believe in the possibilities of your imagination.- Everyone won't always understand or see your vision, but you have to keep on believing, hoping, and imagining what could come.
