Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Nakita Gibbs & Latoya Chambliss, Owners of Connect To Therapy (also known as Communicate To Connect Therapy), located in Atlanta, GA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Connect To Therapy is a multidisciplinary pediatric clinic specializing in speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy. Connect to Therapy was founded in 2012 to provide quality speech and occupational therapy services to children of all ages. We are currently located in Jonesboro, Ga; we’ve been in business serving the cities of Atlanta and its surrounding areas since 2012. We work closely with doctors, hospitals, and government programs to provide a variety of therapeutic services to our community.
We are proud to say that a major source of referrals comes from friends and family members of patients that we are currently or have previously serviced. Our services are offered via teletherapy and in-office appointments.
Tell us about yourself
With the discovery of a mutual drive towards entrepreneurship, Latoya and Nakita have professionally partnered on a number of successful business and community involvement projects since 2005. This dynamic duo has since developed an astute business acumen which includes strong foundations in the analysis of trends and metrics, strategic planning, establishing policies and regulations, as well as leveraging networking opportunities.
Latoya and Nakita both hold Advanced Degrees in Communications from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU), University of Central Florida (UCF), and Florida State University (FSU).
What motivates you each day? Patient progress (wins!), freedom, creativity, happiness, ease of life, and flexibility.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
One of our biggest accomplishments as business owners is knowing that we have always stuck to our ethical values, which have helped to guide our decision-making processes. With integrity at the forefront, we’ve been able to take risks confidently in order to pivot and scale the business and attract like-minded individuals who positively contribute to our mission!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
We pride ourselves on constantly redefining terms such as “Conflicts .”We insist on re-defining those moments that may be commonly considered as “challenges,” However, WE view these hurdles as opportunities for growth! After all, and as you may know, every day poses a new challenge as a business owner!
Nakita - Conquering yourself in order to get out of your own way. I recognized early on that ownership is more of a mental game than anything! Ownership requires you to be accountable for yourself at all times, it challenges your consistency, and it unapologetically highlights your personal strengths and weaknesses. This journey definitely forces you to confront your personal and professional reality in a very real way when setting and achieving your own goals!
Latoya - Be confident in creating your own lane! Having the courage to take risks and be different can be scary. Early on in business, we opted to follow a pre-designed path within the industry that left little room to “color outside of the lines freely.” Through learned experiences, we grew confident in implementing our own best practices for how we desired to do business.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
You don’t have to do business alone; in fact, we don’t suggest it! Build your connections to resources and utilize your business network in order to support your mission and vision.
Nakita - Complete a full brainstorming process and see it through from planning to execution. Know the plans will change, but always, always, always have a PLAN!
Latoya - Define your purpose and stick with that purpose! Understanding your WHY will make it easier to adjust/flow with the challenges and changes that are bound to happen when growing a business.
