Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jeanil Garcia, owner of Confetti Me Sweets LLC., located in The Woodlands, TX, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
My name is Jeanil, and I am based in the North Houston area. You can find my products in a few coffee shops and bakeries throughout Spring, Tomball, Magnolia, and Conroe. I also take custom orders for birthday parties, weddings, business events, and more. Be sure to follow me on Facebook and Instagram for pop-up events in the area.
Tell us about yourself
I first started making macarons when I was a stay-at-home mom of my two beautiful little girls. I was craving macarons and decided to make them myself at home, and I fell in love with the process.
Ever since I was younger, I’ve always had a love for painting and drawing. In school, I took a lot of art classes and joined art clubs. I never thought I would use my artistic side to design macarons and make different characters. I’ve tried to make other sweets, but macarons are what I do best, and I make sure to give all my customers the best of the best.
My daughters are my motivation for everything I do. It's also cute when they tell me they want to be a part of my macaron business or to start their own business "like mommy," so I always try to incorporate them with anything I do for the business.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Never in a million years did I think I would become a business owner. Building a business from the ground up is not easy, but it's possible- I learned everything from Youtube and Pinterest! My biggest accomplishment is seeing my macarons in the different coffee shops and bakeries and people taking the time to reach out to me to tell me how amazing they taste.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
No one is going to nurture and care for your business more than the person that created it. I think the hardest thing is finding the right person that will help you grow the business. Also, having a good work-life balance and having a schedule to keep everything on track is important.
As a business owner, I'm the macaron artist, content creator, photographer, marketing designer, and much more. I am also a mom and a realtor. I have big dreams, but sometimes I need to take a step back and remember that I need to take things one step at a time to succeed.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Don't wait! I usually hear people say that they have to wait until the right time before starting their own business(but really, when is the right time?) NO... just go for it! No one is truly ever ready for anything, but the experience you get in the process is what makes you and your business grow.
- Always trust your gut feeling.
- Invest in yourself and your business. If you need to take classes to learn how to do something you love and get better, there is no other way than to invest in yourself.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Don't be scared to go for what you want. Many people get trapped in a life they don't love because they become too comfortable. Be comfortable putting yourself in uncomfortable situations and take risks. What do you really have to lose?
