Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in mental wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kayee Wilson, Founder of Completely Centered Health LLC, located in Upper Marlboro, MD, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Completely Centered Health is a telemedicine mental health service that supports customers' mental health and wellness. This practice implements a holistic approach that not only addresses mental needs but also incorporates each person's emotional, physical, and spiritual needs. This 3-part bridge care approach (emotional, physical, and spiritual) is essential to one's healing. My services include talk therapy with individuals and couples, family therapy, and medication management.
My patients are individuals from all walks of life, men, women, and children who once have been defeated or felt alone. I use a customized treatment to help get to the root of their condition. What makes my practice unique is that I combine mental health with the spiritual part to help process my patient's emotions and trauma experiences so that they can become the best version of themselves. I do this by addressing 3 aspects of 'us' (emotional, spiritual, and mental) that make us one.
Tell us about yourself
First and foremost, I am a daughter of the HIGHEST. I am a wife, a mother of 3, a family nurse practitioner, a psychiatric nurse practitioner, and a therapist at heart. Completely Centered Health was born soon after I was diagnosed with cancer. I realized before my cancer diagnosis that I was always putting things on the back burner, including my health. I would say things can wait until later. After having a near-death experience, I began taking a retrospective view of myself, my surroundings, and the world as a whole. I realized that many people in the world felt the way I felt, only taking care of one aspect of their being instead of the whole person. I understood that if all the parts of an individual are not taken care of as a whole, different parts suffer. Once I learned to grasp and apply that concept to myself, I was able to reach out to others and give people action tools and things they can do to carry out their goals with the understanding that their goals are not just about themselves but about making a difference in the world regardless of how small or big that difference is.
What motivates me most are two things, my children, because they see that their mother is a fighter and there is no limitation. The second is my clients. I'm motivated when I see them set boundaries, believe in themself, or stop people from pleasing or even knowing who they are in the presence of God. Or see them how God sees them. This is powerful because you see the walls breaking down. I feel that my childhood dream of caring for and making people feel better is most accomplished since starting Completely Centered Health after my cancer diagnosis.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is keeping my business viable and thriving despite the initial struggle to get clients and the reoccurrence of cancer, for which I had surgery and physical therapy for the second time. My persistent nature and natural grace to continue when I did not feel the need to is guided by my desire to help people who need hope, guidance, and direction. This has also helped me continue with this business.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing is starting and dealing with the insecurities and inconsistencies that come with starting a business. The idea of starting a business sounds easy and fun, but the work and dedication that comes with it are difficult. In addition, the insecurity and the comparison that occurs can lead to limiting beliefs. But I understood that the business is not just for me but also a means of helping others to help find their identity.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Be centered on who you are. For me, it is centering on God. Know your value and vision, and do not waiver about what others think.
- Be consistent.
- Give yourself grace. There will be periods of highs and lows, but if you believe in God, you will understand the bigger picture is to help others and not just yourself. Knowing that God is in your corner takes the pressure off you.
