Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sarah Granahan, HTP-A, RMT, CHt, Founder and Owner of Color My Spirit Wellness, located in Raleigh, NC, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I created Color My Spirit Wellness - a Holistic Healing Center based in Raleigh, NC, where I have the pleasure of working with a great team of practitioners, all with one thing in common - we are heart-centered people with a passion for sharing our gifts, training, and experience to support the local and worldwide communities. Isn't that so cool!? And we keep finding more and more talented professionals out there holding a similar space for folks - for deep healing while helping people to reconnect to their true selves.
We show up for our clients at our shop by supporting them with general health & wellness, trauma release, acupuncture, self-care, hypnotherapy, energy healing & messages, BioMat & sound healing, wellness coaching, business development, practitioner development, workshops & training, and so much more. If clients have a curiosity for exploring themselves on a deeper level - then Color My Spirit Wellness can help. Our diverse backgrounds, along with our years of expertise, training, and experience, set us apart. And our services blend well with current health & wellness protocols.
I like to say we help - Transform Humanity with Healing Power - and journey clients toward self-realization, healing, and self-care, which is important for every single person since we are all here to evolve and grow.
Tell us about yourself
Color My Spirit, LLC is a business I started back in 2012 to help offer inspiration, motivation, and self-healing to people by encouraging them to explore the messages their bodies are sending them. I had visioned a business like this one a few years earlier while I worked in Chicago, IL, for a few non-profit groups. The jobs I held with those organizations were wonderful work, and I got to wake up each day and indirectly impact large communities of people around the world. But personally, I knew I wanted to do more and directly impact people. But I just wasn't sure how I was going to do that since traditional job training programs didn't seem to fit my vision holistically. All I knew was that I wanted to help people see, feel and witness true healing on many levels.
Feeling stuck, the amazing Universe we live in guided me on my journey to discover my true life purpose. And ironically, it all started when I became very ill back in 2006. You see, the training I first received on my way to open my own healing business involved me first healing myself. My physical body began breaking down back then, and it was difficult to garner enough energy to even function day to day. It all hit me out of nowhere one day when I was in my mid-twenties. With no traditional diagnosis in sight, I put my anthropological skills to work and researched alternative healing modalities to try and help support my body. I asked myself, "In cultures around the world where they don't have access to big pharma, how do they survive and help themselves heal?" The patterns I began to see through research and with my own experience were that harmony was needed not only on the physical level but emotional, mental, and spiritual levels too, so you can enjoy improved comfort and happiness. All these aspects - every single one of them - affect the physical body!
I went deeper and tuned into my guidance while at the same time discovering my true calling and mission in life - helping others on their life's journey to find balance & deeper healing. This set me on fire and motivated me to do the work I do. I get it - I know what brick walls can feel like. But I am also a creative, so I am good at using hope and my creative edge to find solutions for myself and others. In every single session I do, I get to help someone uncover the answers that are already inside each and every person alive today. We just aren't born already knowing all the answers to our lives - this is what makes life so magical and breathtaking. Isn't that beautiful!? But when the time is right, and we learn our lessons and begin to feel stuck, unseen, or unheard, then it's time to work on uncovering what we need to support us and make us feel better.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
As a business owner, I keep running ahead quickly and building, but when I am made to slow down and look back at what has been seeded or built, I am most proud of the Holistic Healing Center we have created in Raleigh, NC since that was my first dream come true. That's the power of manifestation or, in business terms - goal setting! When I visioned what Color My Spirit, LLC would be many years ago, I didn't realize back then that I would get to go to work and help people discover their dreams and reach them too. All the while supporting them along the way with modalities I am trained in to destress them and help them find what their own gifts are. I am also most proud of all the clients I have been working with over the years, who have grown, found their strides, and re-invented themselves along the way to experience true happiness and success. I have to pinch myself sometimes - I get to do this for a living! And I get to work on myself along the way too. Best. Job. Ever!
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner is one I think most can relate to - the fact that you have to wear all the hats. And if you run a practice and are seeing clients too, well, that's a full plate! Like many do, I also have a family of my own, so balance is very important in my life. And sometimes I get behind, and sometimes I haven't seen friends and family for a while... but it all ends up rebalancing itself and working out. Having some support to do that is imperative. If you have ever owned and run your own business, you know what this is like. I used to think I knew what it would be like, and then I opened my business, and now I truly get it! That's why some people open businesses and then close them after a while. Before you reach that point, find your helpers and supporters - they are worth their weight in gold! And remember, it's quite the opportunity to create and then bring your vision to life. And as I grow and learn to do all that, I can help support clients who find themselves in these roles too.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Be Passionate - All jobs are your home away from home - so what is it you'd like to do or see yourself doing? Make sure there is a lot of passion behind that vision, or you won't feel like putting in the extra effort or work to grow what you have seeded. Get wild with it - you will have to give it your all - so make sure it aligns with how you truly want to express yourself and support others. And remember, competition keeps us in low energy and keeps us stuck - move through passion to raise the vibration and to experience wild growth and opportunities.
- Be Creative - The world is in a time now when we need new visions and systems to help support the structures already in place. There is plenty of room for new and fresh ideas - allow those ideas to come forward and plant them to help support what is already done or what is needed now. Even if you have an idea that someone else has, there is plenty of room for more. Your clients will find you, and there is more than enough to go around.
- Self-Care & Support - Make sure no matter what business you decide to open, if you aren't someone who is growing and open to learning, then your business won't do those things for you either. Work on yourself to see more expansion, growth, and prosperity. Don't think it just happens with no effort. You are a direct reflection of your own business since you created it and brought it into existence. So be gentle, guide it, and do your own work to continue to grow.
