Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Hilary Phillips, Founder of Collective Wellness, located in Atlanta, GA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Collective Wellness is driven by a mission for well-being - mind, body, and spirit. We're all about helping women move beyond getting by to experiencing more joy every day. In particular, we help working moms create a peaceful work-life balance so they can bring out the best of themselves in all they do.

Tell us about yourself

I am a licensed psychotherapist who also has been in the trenches of corporate America - I often say I have a business mind and a therapist's heart. I am passionate, okay, perhaps a bit of a fanatic, about the potential for each of us to have the joy-filled life we desire.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Any time that a client tells me I have made a difference in their life, my heart soars. Being able to make a positive impact in someone's life - even setting a small ripple in motion - I know I'm right where I'm supposed to be.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

There is a fascinating dichotomy as an entrepreneur - on the one hand, you have complete freedom to pursue what fulfills you, and yet you never turn off the drive to do more. I've experienced a lot in my career - I've worked for large publicly traded companies, I've worked for small privately held companies, and I've owned my own business - hands down, the hardest I've ever worked is on my own business, and I wouldn't trade it for the world.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be very clear about what you want and why you want it. This will serve as your true north in challenging times.
  2. Let your clients guide you. Sometimes we start out with an idea but pay attention to what your clients are telling you and adapt appropriately to align with what your clients need.
  3. Find your tribe. Have a solid support system of other entrepreneurs - join or create a mastermind group. These people will support you, encourage you and inspire you along the journey.
