What's your organization, and who are your members?

I am a Data Analytics Sr. Consultant at Deloitte Consulting LLP and give back Coding education to communities in Ghana, Veterans in the United States, and soon Nurses in Rwanda through my Non-Profit Organization: Coders Who Travel Inc. The beneficiaries of our programs are Military men and women transitioning into civilian life & Immigrants and young people in Africa, especially women.

Tell us about yourself

The challenges and triumphs of founding and operating the first West African network of Women Who Code Inc based in San Francisco, motivated me to launch my own organization following counsel from an Attorney. I am fortunate to work for a company that believes in firm initiatives and philanthropy in the marketplace in addition to client work. It is the love for the people who are in emerging markets and in underserved communities that drives me and the environment that my workplace fosters.

What's your biggest accomplishment as an organization?

In July 2019, I was invited and sponsored by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) to speak as a Panelist about my philanthropic work at the World Manufacturing Forum in Cernobbio, Italy.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being an organization?

Finding active and reliable members, volunteers, advisors, and board members.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow an organization today?

  1. Don't quit your current job. Your paycheck can fund your dreams.
  2. Have patience with yourself and your grand goals as you have to grow with your company and prioritize your mental health and well-being.
  3. Concentrate on winning one customer/beneficiary at a time and still run your programs even if few people show up.
