Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Noah Labhart, Podcast Host & Producer of Code Story, located in Dallas, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Code Story is a podcast featuring founders, tech leaders, CTOs, CEOs, and software architects, reflecting on their human story in creating world-changing, disruptive digital products. My customers are my audience and guests. The audience shows their love of the show through their feedback (reviews, emails) and through their listenership. The guests show love for the show by sharing their episodes with their audiences to show it off and by helping to promote the show through their channels.

Tell us about yourself

I'm a startup founder, CTO and Podcast Host. More importantly, I'm a husband, father, Jesus follower, and outdoorsman. I'm passionate about solution architecture. I've held several leadership roles and gained valuable insights into how to deliver world-class software. The sweet spot for me is creating solutions that impact people's lives and doing so by applying elegant dev practices and methodologies and building world-class teams. When I'm not being a geek or reading old calculus books, I can be found chasing after my beautiful bride, being chased by my kids, enjoying a good cup o' joe, playing my guitar(s), or being outdoors. I'm motivated each day by solving problems, sharing stories, and working with good people.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is venturing out to do my own thing. I worked in the corporate world for 8+ years and decided to take a risk and start my own business. I've been an agency owner, and now I'm the CTO & Co-founder at Veryable. I'm on my third business with the podcast, and I have never been more fulfilled than building my own things.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Yes, it's true that there is no ceiling with being a business owner - the sky's the limit, as they say. However, paired with that - there is no floor. You have to build the floor, and if you don't - you will likely fail. Some days it is difficult to maintain the floor, so to speak, as it's typically not where the innovation is. But it's critical. In addition to this, it's difficult building a team and organization. People will make or break the mission of a company, and it's very difficult to recover from bad hires.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Start now; stop waiting.
  2. Find a good partner, and find good people.
  3. Be OK with failure and mistakes - and keep going.
