What's your business, and who are your customers?
Code of Harmony is a clean CBD Skincare product line for people with complicated skin.
Tell us about yourself
I began making skincare products because I have a skin condition called Rosacea, where the skin is very sensitive, red, dry, flaky, and sometimes broken out. There is not a great medical solution to help the problem, and many skincare products make the problem worst. Consequently, many of my clients have complicated skin as well. I am an Esthetician, and I can see how my products positively affect the skin of my clients. This is what keeps me going.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Every day feels like an accomplishment in the life of an entrepreneur. One of my most proud moments was getting genomic testing back on two of our products. The results of the testing were quite impressive and validating to all of my hard work.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing for me has been cultivating a good team. It is so important to have a team that has your back. Without that, you end up trying to do it all yourself... and that is both ineffective and impossible. Burnout is real!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Be flexible, and don't get too attached to how you want things to go. As we have seen over the past 3 years, with the pandemic and an unpredictable economy, you have to be ready to shift when needed.
- Build a good team so you can step away when needed. I am still working on this.
- Build a good product and a strong, engaged customer base. Without that, you will always be chasing new clients, and you will never know who your customer is.
