What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a multi-disciplinary designer. Over more than 50 years, the firm has produced wayfinding programs, accessibility, exhibits, and identities for major hospitals, museums, corporations, and five stars hotels. Clients have included the San Regis Hotel and Sheraton hotels in NY, the Swissotel in Istanbul, the Dragon Valley Hotel in Korea, the Las Islas Hotel in Colombia, and several Musees des Beaux Arts in France and in Colombia. Health Care includes the Mass Eye and Ear Infirmary, the Deaconess Hospital, the Tufts University of Dental Medicine, the Wisconsin Clinical Science Center. Among the prestigious projects are the Harvard Business School, The University of the Aga Kahn in Pakistan, the Black and Decker World Headquarters, Battery Park City in NY, AVIATUR SA in South America.

Tell us about yourself

I knew at 15 years old that I wanted to be an interior architect. Reason: to never do twice the same thing and avoid boredom.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

To have successfully worked for more than 50 years and formed many young designers who are all today independent and successful.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One has to be willing to work many hours. It is not a 9-5 job.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Nerves of steel. And if in the design industry, talent and imagination are a must, not replaced by computers.
