Interested in starting your entrepreneurial journey in personal development, but not sure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Rev. Dr. Sandy Range, Ph.D., founder, and owner of Intentional Self, LLC., from Randolph, MA, USA.
Tell us all about your business...
As a retired holistic psychotherapist, ordained minister, and Q'ero Shamanic Practitioner, I am now helping women and men over fifty years old through Spiritual Counseling and Therapeutic, Life, and Transitional Coaching. The difference is in the technique of keeping people in the present to address what is in the present, no matter how long a history those problems or issues have been around.
With a particular emphasis on Trauma and BIPOC people, my coaching style assists one to see what is in front of them, find solutions, and the actions to take to reach one's goals. Coaching keeps one accountable for the results obtained. It allows one to hold and utilize their power to make a change. Intentional Self also offers Shamanic Healing, Reiki with Organic Tuning, Hypnotherapy, Past Life Regression, Ascension Meditation, and Ancestral Connections ©.
What's your background and motivation to grow as a solopreneur?
As a small child, my mother taught me about Metaphysical workings. Being Indian and Cherokee, she was a great spiritual teacher and healer. It instilled me with enough knowledge always to be aware, respectful, and mindful of everything in my environment, animate and inanimate.
As I grew into adulthood, I lost my power for a while but remembered my learning as graduate school. The rigorous science of psychology often rubbed me the wrong way. My professors never included the soul or spirit. I learned that if we don't address a person's whole being, they will never heal for good. I opened my first private practice late in life, in my fifties, but it was the best thing I ever did. Over the past thirty years, I studied with various Masters, learning alternative and spiritual healing methods and techniques. It is my passion for healing others that flows like a river through my whole being. My work is something that I have to do. It is my calling.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
The most significant accomplishment in my business is the many people who leave whole and complete. They know what to do and how to do it to enhance their lives. I am humbled by the many thank you’s and big smiles as people learn about their power and intention.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a solopreneur?
The hardest thing as a business owner is taking time away from my clients to do all the necessary paperwork, ordering supplies, paying the bills, balancing the budget, etc. All the background things have nothing to do with the work itself but are necessary to remain a business.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run or grow a small business today?
- Have a strong passion and desire for whatever your work is.
- Know there will be ups and downs, but hang tough. It’s worth it.
- Put your all into it. Anything worth doing is worth doing well. Know your profession inside and out.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
The old cliché “It’s not about you,” is the cornerstone of my work. I believe it is time for us to recognize how we interact with the world and those around us. Be kind, understand that others may be suffering or just having a bad day. Smile at someone even if they don’t return it. Pay someone a compliment. It just may brighten their day. Small things can make all the difference. Remember, it is “not about you” but our entire human and animal families.
