Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Aaron Jaeger, co-founder of ClipYeah, located in Gold Coast, QLD, Australia.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
The business I co-founded is ClipYeah, and we are a video editing service for businesses, entrepreneurs, online services, and course creators who are looking to create content for social media channels like Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. Plus, we offer a full suite of custom edit services for the entire sales funnel. Not only does our world-class team complete the editing of the videos, but we also offer advice and training on our clients marketing via an online course and one on one coaching.
Tell us about yourself
I started in the media industry 20 years ago, working in TV advertising, and was hooked by the ability to use creativity in my everyday life. Five years ago, I signed up as the Video Producer for an online course which, through my help and with an amazing team, went on to generate over $50 million in sales. That really showed me how I could use my skill set to benefit everyday people and drove my passion for branching out and creating my own business where I could offer my advice, knowledge, and creative skills to many more people to assist them in growing their own businesses and their own impact on the world.
I'm really motivated by being able to help good people do better with their own journeys, so they can help more people themselves and spread positive change to others.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment would have to be the change I've seen in clients that have come to work with us. It can be quite a lonely road out there for people trying to build their presence online, and it can be so confusing and overwhelming. So to be able to help steer their ship in the right direction and then watch their enthusiasm grow as the positive results come rolling in. That is a true joy for my whole team and me to watch, and I consider those my biggest wins every day.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
A lot of people have this idea in their head that being a business owner means they'll be able to have all this extra time on their hands when the reality is that starting a business takes way more than "full-time." There is always something you can do to improve your business or help your clients better. So putting the "tools down" at the end of the day is often quite difficult because I have this drive to build and a drive to offer better every day. Some people may be able to rest on what they've achieved, but for me, I'm just too passionate about finding those 1% improvements at every turn.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
My top 3 tips would be:
- Be willing and ready to adapt. You may have a very clear business plan that sometimes will have to go out the window, and you'll have to be able to adapt quickly.
- Build your runway. If you're thinking of leaving a full-time job to start a business, you'll need a cash runway that will give you the time to get that business off the ground. It doesn't happen overnight.
- Seek brutally honest feedback. If you find yourself surrounded by 'yes men,' you're heading for troubled waters.
