Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Molly Patrick, co-founder of Clean Food Dirty Girl, located in Kihei, HI, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

For people wanting to eat healthier and in a food rut, Plant Fueled Life is the most fun, delicious, and satisfying way to cook plant-based recipes and get damn excited about being in your kitchen.

Tell us about yourself

I've never eaten meat in my life, and I always wanted to help a lot of people eat more plants. My wife has a technology background, so when we were fired from our jobs in 2014, we decided to put our skills together and start our own thing! I am motivated every day by our members who get life-changing health results by following our meal plans and recipes. I am also a life coach and do group coaching once a week with our members to add accountability and help people overcome their hurdles. That's one of my favorite aspects of my job.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Building an amazing team and a profitable membership model that does good in the world.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Managing everything. It used to be that Luanne (my wife) and I did everything in our business. It was a lot of work to wear so many hats, but there was no one to manage. Now that we have a team, a big community, and thousands of members, I no longer do the things I did in the beginning, like creating recipes and meal plans. Now I manage our team and focus on growing our company and reaching more people. That shift has been a challenge but also really rewarding.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Build trust with the people you are serving by being genuine and really solving a problem. Be consistent in your offerings and communication. Collect people's email addresses and send them truly useful information about your expertise. Start before you're ready. Have an end goal, and be okay with not knowing exactly how you'll get there. I could go on for days about this!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Do not give up when things get tough or don't work out right away. Do what you can with the resources you have, and KEEP GOING. Move forward, even if your steps are small. The only way it won't work is if you give up. Once it gets hard, that's your clue to keep going. Also, don't listen to anyone who tells you you can't have your own successful business. You totally can. And should! Go do it!!!
