What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am an industry veteran. Been in the business for over 30 years, starting at the very young age of 16. Worked in many places, in Europe and North America. Graduated from French Culinary Institute in New York, in 2000. Worked in some highly regarded places like 14 Wall Street, San Pietro, Babbo, Sparks Steakhouse, Le Perigourd. Sous Chef and later Executive Chef. After moving to Toronto, opened my own business, and currently, I am the chef/ sommelier/ owner of Clandestino wine bar.

Our place resembles a Pirate Ship, 😀, We offer exceptional quality, at a super affordable and very relaxed atmosphere. Our Customers are mostly Young Professionals, 25 to 40, Couples, Young business executives. We get lots of Hospitality professionals, who appreciate good quality, warm ambiance, and being a family-run place, we are far away from Cookie Cutter big box places.

Tell us about yourself

Being in Hospitality all my life has always been my dream, my goal, to run& work in my business as soon as it is possible. Took lots of work and dedication, but finally been here, for the last 6 yrs.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Happy Customers and being appreciated for what you do, providing for my family, being recognized among the best in business.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Lots of difficulties arise, from planning & finance, operating day to day. Sometimes you have to work 3 times harder to close all the gaps. In a business like mine, on the same day I happened to be the chef, dishwasher, Summerland Matre'd at the same time.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

1. Have faith in your abilities, trust your instincts, be brave.

2. Carefully plan the finances.

3. Careful with location selection.

Yes, passion. You have to love and be passionate about what you, the rest will follow.
