What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am Darcy Meehan, a Coach, and Consultant who founded the Claim Your Origin Story Method. I use this method to support solopreneurs, business teams, and brands in crafting the most compelling stories to reach and serve their ideal audience. This approach not only catapults missions and visions, increases sales, and adds massive value to more people, but it also provides an instant confidence infusion and enriches the work of everyone involved. Tell us about yourself
This process was originally born when I was newly sober, supporting others in their recovery journey who were desperate to see the purpose in their pain, change the way they saw themselves, and hope to leverage the lessons they had lived through. Eventually, turning the love for people and my natural writing ability into a process that was shared in rehabs across Northern California, where I was working as a Marriage and Family Therapist, coaching schools and programs that sought me out. I began to spotlight as the in-house content creation guide and copywriting go-to. The combination of listening closely, being so present with others, and infusing heart into what I reflected back had a huge impact because opportunities to work kept coming in. Helping creatives write their books, build programs, design curriculum, shift their self-perspectives and step into new life phases were all built into the "let's get present together" process. Connecting people with who or what they need is what really lights me up. There are so many ways to do that, which is the really magical part.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment so far: having sincere, solid, collaborative, honest relationships with others and a growing network of colleagues, clients, and people I'll connect with in the future who inspire me to keep moving through fears and claiming my experience so others can benefit from it.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Going solo for sure. The insecurities that come in when alone, not plugged into a community of growing, vision-led people, can be lonely, defeating, and straight-out mean. The value of having a coach and community is priceless; it's necessary not only to be a true leader but to stay honest and aligned.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Get your own coach or consultant to support your process, whether as a sacred witness, guide, or logistical leader.
- Prioritize space and time to "do nothing." This is where creativity can spark, and inspiration will turn to clear action steps.
- Connect with your future self often, meditate, and pour into the simple things that help you feel stable, sane, and supported by life.
- Whatever it takes to stay away from comparison with others, prioritize that!
