What's your business, and who are your customers?
I'm in the business of cheese and charcuterie curation. My clients are the lovely folks living in and around the Georgian Bay Area.
Tell us about yourself
The idea for Chuckaboo Boards Inc. was born over a glass of vino with a dear "Chuckaboo." She recognized my love for entertaining and creating lovely boards and suggested that I make this into a business! What motivates me is my clients and the lovely feedback I receive from them. The hard work that I put into creating these boards is very much so appreciated and loved by my clients, which makes me love what I do even more.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment so far was creating this business and thriving at a time where the world wasn't. I wasn't working. I had two young kids at home doing online schooling (that needed my help… a lot) and was able to make it all work while keeping my sanity (surprisingly). I feel proud of that!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing is staying motivated. This business is a side business for me, so it's a matter of juggling my "day/career job" while still fulfilling my client's orders. I'm a one-gal shop, so I do all the curating, creating, photographing, and delivering these boxes, so I need to pace myself.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Do something that you truly love.
- Don't give up… it's ok to pause for a bit, but don't give up on your dream.
- Pace yourself. Take your time to do it right. Presentation is key on so many levels, so it's best not to rush to the finish line with mediocre results.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
I dream of opening a Chuckaboo Boutique… a place where people can gather to enjoy lovely cheeses and charcuterie paired with fabulous wine from local Ontario wineries. This is my dream. I look forward to one day making that dream come true!
