Postpartum Cooking, Bodywork, Care Routines - Christine Eck

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Christine Eck, Founder of Center for Sacred Window Studies, located in Florence, MA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

The Center for Sacred Window Studies is an education and resource provider for professionals and individuals in Postpartum Care from a more complete and holistic approach. Our instructors come from an Ayurvedic background, and we acknowledge that cultures across the globe used traditions for healing after birth that has been lost in modern times. Our students are birth professionals, alternative medicine practitioners, expecting parents, doulas, Ayurvedic professionals, and anyone who is drawn to working with new families.

Tell us about yourself

I came to this work as an Ayurvedic Health Counselor and expecting mother who wanted a better postpartum experience than I had with my first child. I am motivated every single day by the inspiring students and professionals we meet through this school and the families that are being supported through access to these amazing people.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I would say the evolution of our program over the past 5 years and the testimonials of our incredible students. It's affirming and humbling!

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest part of owning a business is the responsibilities that are not naturally in my wheelhouse. I am a natural educator and nurturer. I am not natural in marketing and sales. This has been something I've learned over time and continue to learn every single day.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be brave and take a risk! Starting a business is like going to school and learning from your own project.
  2. Don't go it alone! Find partners, collaborators, and team members to support you and co-create. It's less lonely, more motivating, and will bring more energy to your business.
  3. Don't be afraid to change it up! Your project and your business is a reflection of you, and we as humans are always shifting and growing. Let your business, its model, its products, its branding to flow and change as best supports and reflects you, your needs, your schedule, and your ideas. I was so surprised by the immense creativity that came with creating and running my business. I love the openness of being able to decide what feels right and change what needs to be changed.
