Clean Products for You and Your Home - Christina Maser Co.
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Gretchen Maser, Owner of Christina Maser Co., located in Lancaster, PA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
The Christina Maser Co. is a small batch producer of both a line of soy wax candles and bath & body products, as well as a line of shelf-stable food products. Our products can be found at private retailers, co-ops, and farm stands throughout the northeast, as well as retailers like Whole Foods Markets.
Tell us about yourself
My business began over twenty years ago and actually quite by accident. At that time, I had small children with dietary and allergy issues, which led to the creation of many of our products. Being in business for myself afforded me the opportunity to put my kids first as my business grew slowly. I am totally motivated by our incredible customers. We have both individual retail customers and retail stores that have been with us for more than 15 years. I'm also motivated by the many entrepreneurs I know and have met over the years.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
To be honest, I think my greatest accomplishment as a business owner over the years was the fact that I managed to hold onto my business and that side of my identity, and that both continued to blossom and grow while I raised my family. My kids (now grown adults) learned many skills at an early age because of the business, that they never would have learned in school.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The hardest thing for me about being a business owner is maintaining balance. Some days I feel like a magician.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- If your belief in the products or services you offer is that strong, mirror that belief in yourself. If you don't believe it, it cannot be.
- Learn to accept praise, criticism, and well-intended advice. All of that will help you on the journey.
- Know that while there are always lessons to be learned from our own mistakes, there's plenty to be learned from others' mistakes too. Pay attention.
