What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is educating non-medical people on pediatric medicine with an online course directed towards caregivers of children with chronic medical issues to better understand the basics of medicine and what to expect, and how to prepare.
Tell us about yourself
I am a former pediatric critical care doctor. I loved practicing and understanding physiology. Many times I saw people, including family members, doubt the medical team and experience and relied on their google search as a better source. In the hospital setting, it is often difficult to have families understand the nuances of their chronic care life as it is an overwhelming time. I just want caregivers to be on the same level by understanding basic pediatric medicine principles using the same vocabulary so they do not feel overwhelmed and feel like a true part of their child's medical team. I want a better health system because inpatient-to-outpatient care often gets lost and is very frustrating. I eagerly take on phone calls from friends and family to discuss the reason for something and what questions to ask their healthcare providers, and I would like to do this kind of work as a living.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I just started, so just getting the website going and working on my course.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Time to complete everything as I am a full-time mom of 2 boys under 4 and taking this step to put myself out there.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Go with your passion, it may take time and longer than you anticipate, and set your goals (to me, having a work-life balance with using my education to help others).
