Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in photography but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Christina Millward, a photographer based in Calgary, AB, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I have a photography business, and I photograph anything—weddings/elopements, portraits, families, maternity, and newborn.
Tell us about yourself
I've always been super passionate about photography. For such a long time, I had it as just a hobby and did it in my free time until recently when I decided I wanted to make it my career and start my own business.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Building my website, publishing it, and starting my career as a professional photographer. As hard as it may be to get my foot in the door, I wouldn't have it any other way.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Finding clients and not losing motivation. I struggled with that big time when I felt like I was going nowhere with my business.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Stay focused. It takes time and it takes focus to run a business. It's not going to magically happen. So stay focused on working to achieve your goals.
- Be consistent. Being consistent is super important in starting a business and finding clients. Post on Instagram or Facebook. It's definitely something I struggled with at the beginning.
- Don't give up. Starting a business and finding clients is hard, and it takes time. But it's important to remember why you started in the first place.
