Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in skincare but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Christalyne Causey, Owner of Bare Aesthetics Skincare and Nutrition, located in Scottsdale, AZ, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Bare is a small aesthetic business that focuses on corrective skin care, lashes and brow services, and more. Our goal is to help anyone who walks through our doors feel confident enough to rock the skin they are in. Whether it’s clearing up acne, slowing the aging process, or helping you to feel better through diet adjustments, we customize everything to the individual, meeting them where they are and educating them so that they can make confident, informed decisions and be an active part of their own health and beauty journey.
Tell us about yourself
My grandmother was a fan of skincare and aging gracefully. My step-sister was all about the beauty products. They both influenced my love of skincare, but it was losing them both to cancer that really drove me to open my own space and start developing my product line. I wanted to offer cancer-safe treatments and products as well as be able to educate clients on the importance of choosing products wisely and using nutrition and certain skincare products to actually improve their health and appearance.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment came when other estheticians started referring clients to me. It is one thing for clients to think you are good at what you do; it is quite another when peers agree. It gave me a huge boost in confidence and helped me realize I am going in the right direction.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
I think hiring and maintaining employees. So much effort goes into it. I was never one who wanted to be a boss, and I find management of this particular aspect of business very challenging.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Be patient, I’m still not where I want to be, but as long as I’m moving forward, I know I will get there.
- Find your top money-making activities and focus on those if you can outsource the rest, even better.
- Set your systems and processes as soon as possible. This allows them to be replicated and saves you from having to do everything forever.
