Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in special needs, but not sure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Christine L'Abbé, the founder of Evolve Movement, a children's special needs service in Canada.
Tell us all about your business...
Our mission is simple. We guide and support children towards discovering and expressing their innate potential, whether differently-abled, or neurotypical. Every child is unique and therefore so is their journey. Our priority is to ensure children feel safe, seen, heard and valued every step of the way. Our mission is also to guide and support parents in reconnecting with their inner compass to access new levels of joy and fulfillment, all the while educating them about what it truly means to show up for their kids.
Education is Guidance – We understand the power of knowledge and through education, we support and guide families on their journey with their special child. With our unique approach and treatment combinations, we support both members of the family cognitively, physically and emotionally. Out team is unique - Our team is made up of exclusively selected professionals who believe and support our collective mission. Many are parents of differently-abled children or were/are differently-abled themselves. We understand first-hand what families are experiencing because we’ve experienced it ourselves.
What's your background and motivation to grow as a business owner?
I am the Co-Founder and CEO at Evolve Movement; I am also a family coordinator, pediatric Anat Baniel Method® NeuroMovement® practitioner, Conscious Parenting Coach & Conscious practitioner trainer. My passion and commitment to serve differently-abled children stems from my own experience as a parent to a daughter with Atypical Rett Syndrome.
Teaching practitioners and parents how to create an optimal environment for differently abled children to progress, thrive and shine their unique light is my life's work. It's my passion and purpose. Supporting families on their journey to awaken and transform, all the while seeing our very special humans bloom into their innate potential brings me incredible joy and fulfillment. I serve families around the world and engage in public speaking events to educate parents, caregivers, educators, practitioners and therapists about what it truly means to show up for differently-abled children and their families.
As an entrepreneur, what does success ultimately mean to you?
Right now I am excited about a new project we are about to launch to support more families around the world. It's a community membership program that brings together a team of professionals and recognized guest speakers to:
- Educate and empower parents to show up for their differently-abled child in the way they need it most;
- Teach them how to create a holistic and optimal environment for their child to discover and express their unique potential;
- Guide and support parents towards their own equilibrium, joy and fulfillment.
Our membership community will include group conscious parenting coaching with weekly guided self-care and self-reflection activities and exercises, monthly LIVE calls, and weekly education and support. We are so excited to support families this way and hope to create a paradigm shift as it relates to how differently-abled kids are supported on their path.
We want parents to feel empowered to advocate for their kiddos in the way they need it most. This absolutely requires parents to do their own healing as a means to truly see the child in their true essence, breaking free from limiting belief systems and conditioning to create a new world of opportunities for these kids - who better to support them then professionals who have walked in their shoes.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being an entrepreneur?
There is so much to juggle between being a mom and an entrepreneur. Finding equilibrium and balance has always been a challenge for me, but I've found my way. I am someone who can take on a lot, the challenge is to stay focused and not take on more than I can chew.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run or grow a small business today?
Passion. Make sure you're passionate about what you do, that it strikes a cord in your heart. When your work doesn't feel like work, you know you've found your niche.
Secondly, dream big, don't limit yourself or your vision, when something is meant to be, it happens in the right time. Just allow yourself to be open and flow with life's current.
And third, stay authentic, it's important that your work is aligned with who you are, and what you're meant to share with life. That's when success is inevitable.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Yes. This message is for those of service to children with special needs and their families. Consciously serving differently-abled children means prioritizing authentic connection and their self worth, it means tapping into your ability to show up in the unique way the child needs you to. Remember that Differently-abled children are already whole. They don't need to be fixed. What they do need is to to be seen, heard and valued for that which is unique and innate. What they need is authentic connection and love.
