Tell us about yourself
I'm Rebecca Hamilton, Founder & CEO of Chick Boss Cake and Rebecca Hamilton Co., author of The Million Dollar Bakery, host of Scrap The Sweet Talk Podcast, and keynote speaker. I'm extremely passionate about sharing all my business and life advice on how I've turned my hobby into a million-dollar business and how you can too! I don't believe in 'finding yourself'; I believe in 'creating yourself.' Living a life with purpose & passion is the only life worth living. Tune into my podcast for all my tips & tricks on business and life!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Starting my business with zero formal education and no previous experience. I dropped out of high school & moved out on my own at 16 years old. After struggling with homelessness, depression & anxiety, I learned how to overcome life's toughest challenges and create a massively successful business despite all the odds stacked against me. I was able to grow my little bakery business to over a million and sales & then I wrote a book about how I did it. My book is called: The Million Dollar Bakery. It offers helpful lessons and advice that you can apply to any business in any industry.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
It's all about mindset. If you work on your mindset and self-development daily, you'll be in great shape. Everything about business is hard. I've dedicated an entire chapter in my book talking about how hard it is; the chapter is called Business Is A Battlefield. There's nothing easy about business, and if you think it's easy, you're doing it wrong. Nothing worth having comes easy. It's 80% psychology & only 10% business skill & strategy. Let that sink in.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- You are your biggest asset. Taking care of yourself physically, mentally & emotionally is absolutely the #1 key to your success. Nothing else should be a higher priority than this. The business will only be as successful & strong as the entrepreneur running it.
- Sales are the most important part of your business, after your self-care, of course. If you don't have sales, then you don't have a business. Too many people get distracted by making a pretty store, business cards, website designs, etc., but none of those things even matter if you don't have sales.
- If you don't want to quit, you're doing it wrong. There will be many times that your business will push you to your breaking point; let this be a sign that you're on the right track. Instead of giving in and giving up, push through because there is gold waiting for you on the other side of the toughest challenges.
