Heal Nourish Grow - Cheryl McColgan

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Cheryl McColgan, founder of Heal Nourish Grow LLC., located in Cincinnati, OH, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm an author and coach focused on helping people look and feel better. My customers are busy professionals who want to get healthier and lose weight, but need a plan laid out for them to simplify decisions.

Tell us about yourself

The short version is I had some health scares of my own and also a lot of cancer in my family. I became very interested in exploring practices that would allow me to experience greater health and longevity. As a writer, it was natural for me to want to share the things I was learning so I could help others on their own health journey. What motivates me every day is knowing that I'm helping people get healthier. It truly makes my day whenever I hear from someone that says I made an impact on their life and health by sharing information and coaching them to do just a little better every day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My cookbooks! They're such an involved process, but a way I can reach even more people is to introduce them to the idea of the impact food choices can have on health.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Hands down, it's time, or more accurately, the lack thereof. When you're the only one in your business, it's difficult to really prioritize the tasks that influence your bottom line the most. I'm starting to outsource some things and exploring adding a new team member.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

The first tip I have is to find a coach, mentor, or someone that can act as a colleague. Having someone to bounce ideas off of and commiserate with will make you feel a lot less alone when you're first starting a business with only yourself. The second tip I have is to invest in your business. It's so hard to grow without at least a virtual assistant or someone else that can take some routine tasks off your hands so that you can work on growing the business. The last tip I have is to take advantage of free trainings. A lot of them are more of a sales pitch, but I've been able to find plenty that has given tips or new knowledge that I can integrate into my business.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Taking care of your mental and physical health is key when you run a business. It's cliche, but it really is hard to keep pouring into your business and others when you are feeling burned out and run down. Nutrition is a key component of this for me, as well as fasting. The amount of focus you can gain to impact your business from these practices is quite amazing. I highly recommend picking up my book, 21 Day Fat Loss Kickstart: Make Keto Easy, Take Diet Breaks, and Still Lose weight. It's not just the 21 days but talks about how to change your nutrition and implement these practices as a lifestyle that will improve your mental clarity and the ability to focus, which can have a huge impact on your business.
