Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Chelsey Overman, Owner of Pebble Creek Farm and The Barn at Lone Eagle Landing, located in Ste. Genevieve, MO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I own and manage two wedding venues in Ste. Genevieve County, Missouri- The Barn at Lone Eagle Landing and Pebble Creek Farm. Our customers are couples who are looking for a location for their wedding.

Tell us about yourself

My family owns a large farm, and we love sharing it with family and friends. My father and I were brainstorming different ideas one day, which is when the idea of building a wedding venue came about. My motivation, first and foremost, is my family. This is a family-owned and operated business, so being surrounded by them and working alongside one other building a business is pretty great! Everyone does their best for each other. Secondly, the couples that we provide the space for on one of the best days of their lives and the first day of the rest of their life together is so neat to think about. Knowing that we get to play a small role in their life and love story is nothing short of amazing.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is a combination of a few things. When we first started, it was my sister doing everything and me. We've grown so much and now have a small team that does an outstanding job. With that growth of adding a team, we are better able to serve our couples. Our business growth has allowed me to walk away from my first career to continue to grow our business while also being a mother to my 1.5-year-old daughter.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

For me, it's those very few people that disrespect your business or question your effort and not being able to turn it off.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Stay in your lane. Stay true to you and your business goals without worrying about those around you.
  2. Stay consistent. Doing the small things consistently will add up to big results.
  3. Find what you're great at and do really well and when your business is ready, delegate other tasks. You'll find your business is more efficient.
