Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food services but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Luke Griffin, Owner of Chefs Course, located in Nanaimo, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

At Chefs Course, we create custom menus and dining experiences right in our clients' homes. I am a private chef that focuses on local quality ingredients.

Tell us about yourself

I fell into this industry like so many others...I spent time in the dish pit and gradually worked my way up from there.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Having the courage to step away from the day-to-day brick-and-mortar restaurant and continue on with Chefs Course on my terms. Cooking what I want!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Income fluctuations. But being able to be around my family more is a great trade-off.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Get the basics down pact.
  2. Find a great mentor and work for them for a long time.
  3. Venture off and stay dedicated.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

This has been one of the best decisions I've made after nearly 30 years in the kitchen.
