Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Chef Stackz, Owner of Talayahs Southern Grill, located in Saskatoon, SK, CA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am the only authentic southern soul food in Saskatchewan, bringing truly authentic soul food to the Canadian residents by introducing them to my past and present southern staples.

Tell us about yourself

I have been cooking for as long as I can remember. Learning everything from my mother and grandmother, then entering into the culinary industry, where my experience grew with every passing moment. I finally decided to open my own restaurant and named it after my little girl, whom we lost to cancer in 2019. So in 2020, Talayah's Southern Grill was opened with my baby pushing me forward to succeed in her name.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment was keeping my doors open through the pandemic, which was incredibly hard, but we did it, and now to move forward.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is the long hours away from my family and everyday stress.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Plan it out.
  2. Build a team.
  3. Set a goal.
