International Fusion Meals - Chef Moshi

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food service but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ngiana Moshi, Owner of Chef Moshi LLC., located in Atlanta, GA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Chef Moshi is a personal service that focuses on providing the best quality organic savory and sweet cuisines. This business assists busy individuals and families with healthy meal preparations every week according to their health requirements and food preferences by utilizing personally tailored menus.

The goal of this business is to bring out Chef Moshi’s unique culinary perspective with a twist by using ingredients that are familiar or unfamiliar to get customers excited about food again and hopefully get them away from the usual cycle of repetitive everyday meals.

My customers are individuals who have an adventurous palate and an open mind. They can fully relish my cuisines, which are international fusion meals drawn from the American, African, Italian, Indian, and South American cultures, with recipes that are healthy, hearty, and full of flavor while also telling a rich, spicy story of their exotic origins.

Tell us about yourself

I have always had a deep-rooted love for cooking and the culinary arts. I remember distinctly being a ten-year-old girl standing on a stool in my mother’s kitchen, carefully studying her as she seamlessly used and combined harvested ingredients from our home garden to produce decadent meals and drinks that stayed true to our African, Indian and Middle-Eastern infused culture.

After working in a government job for years, I realized that that exposure had imparted something profound in me from that young age and created a longing for cooking that could no longer be averted. That is when I decided to switch careers drastically and join a Culinary Arts School to solidify my knowledge further.

I am motivated each day by my love and respect for cooking and bettering my customers’ lives by providing them with delicious and health-conscious meals.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishments to date as a business owner are the various personalized meals that I have been able to create for my customers. All of my recipes are personal creations that have sprouted from experiences garnered from my upbringing, travels, and fervent explorations of different types of worldly cuisines.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

There is a multitude of stressful factors that occur behind the scenes as a business owner in this industry. Some of the more strenuous issues that occur to bring a beautiful plate to your table include but aren’t limited to 24 hours' worth of nonstop work to have meals out time and the rigorous cleaning and prepping involved to produce delicious meals that are appetizing and appealing to the eye. A lot of chefs do not enjoy the meal-prepping style of cooking compared to family-style cooking.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

I always say that life happens at the border of conformable and uncomfortable, and when you’re comfortable, you won't achieve anything. So the first tip I would give anyone is to not be afraid to take that risk to start that business you have been sitting on for a while.

A second tip would be to find people or mentors with experience in the field one is hoping to venture into, going with the flow of the business where it can direct you.

And lastly, I would advise anyone to keep persevering with their new business. Beginnings are usually tough and sometimes slow-paced and can be very discouraging, but if you dig your heels (I meant crocs) and keep working, things eventually open up to great adventurous blessings.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

We should all endeavor to find a form of work-life balance. As for me, I am getting better at setting aside a few limited moments within a month that allow me to take a break and take good care of myself. So I would advise anyone to work hard for their business but also make sure to carve out personal time for themselves deliberately. It will do wonders for your overall output and bring restoration to not only your body but also your mind. Cheers!
