What's your business, and who are your customers?

Cheesecake Funk is an incredible brand of made from scratch cheesecakes. Our customers include anyone who loves an amazing dessert experience - even if cheesecake isn't your jam, Cheesecake Funk will knock your socks off! Our cheesecakes are loved by many, including the late musician Prince. Prince loved our cheesecakes so much that he came up with the name, hence Cheesecake Funk! Truly here to share all the joy that comes with enjoying a wonderful dessert.

Tell us about yourself

As a single mother of two young children, my daily drive and motivation are to show my children that dedication to your passion is one of the greatest joys in life. Running Cheesecake Funk during these past few years has been challenging but very rewarding at the same time. In 2019, I transitioned out of my 20-year legal career to embark on growing my brand. I've always had a passion for creating cheesecakes, but being able to focus on it 100% being an entrepreneur has been so rewarding. I enjoy connecting with new customers all the time who instantly fall head over heels for my creations.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

One of my biggest accomplishments with Cheesecake Funk has been its growth since my first cheesecake was made around 2002. Baking my first cheesecakes for family and friends out of my home kitchen, transitioning out of my legal career, and now utilizing the banquet kitchen within the Minneapolis Marriott Southwest hotel blows me away some days. I'm so very thankful to have grown my business from my home kitchen to managing orders from within the walls of an amazing hotel. It's a pretty great feeling of accomplishment, and I look forward to whatever the future holds with the growth of my brand.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Time management! It's been trying juggling all of the different aspects of my business, but I think the strong organizational skills I learned in my previous career have really helped me execute and juggle many things related to my business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Have confidence in your passion for what you do. Trust your instincts. Always have an open mind when it comes to ways in which to grow your business.
