What's your business, and who are your customers?
Cheerfetti Gift Co. is an online gift shop offering gift boxes with personality. Many of the products we carry are Canadian-made, and we focus on curating gift boxes that are cheery, warm, and thoughtful. Our customers love spoiling their friends and family during life's big moments like buying a house, starting a family, or celebrating a birthday or personal accomplishment. They also want to soften the lows that life inevitably throws at us, like a loss of a loved one or a health challenge. Our customers are also parents shopping for their kids away at university and managers looking for client or partner gifts to say thank you while supporting the local economy.
Tell us about yourself
I'm an entrepreneur at heart, so starting a business was just a matter of time for me. When I was going through a divorce a few years ago, I started a breakup box business without knowing anything about starting a business or having the energy to learn how to do it properly. It didn't go exactly as planned (read: it was a huge flop), and after some reflecting and learning, I started Cheerfetti. Besides having a strong fire inside to excel, getting feedback from customers about their Cheerfetti experience motivates me daily.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Hmm, this is a tough one. I'd have to say getting to my first 5-figure revenue month stands out!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The uncertainty of it all! There are a lot of unknowns to navigate, and while you can make predictions based on past sales and trends, unexpected things happen, and you just have to roll with it.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Start now. Not tomorrow, now. Take 5 minutes to block time off in your calendar to start making your dreams a reality.
- Start small. You won't have everything figured out at the beginning, and you don't have to.
- Listen to customer feedback and incorporate it into your offer as much as possible.
