Cakes for a Cause - Cheeky Monkey Cake Company

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jennifer Noble, owner of Cheeky Monkey Cake Company, located in Biloxi, MS, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Cheeky Monkey Cake Company is a family-owned bakery that produces only the best tasting, highest quality wedding cakes and specialty cakes on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. We are proud to provide our customers with elegant wedding cakes, custom birthday cakes, and special event cakes made to order. Every cake made is customized to the individual's needs and desires. Our clients become our family. They invite us to be a part of their most important celebrations, and we take that responsibility very seriously.

Tell us about yourself

It is truly a passion. As I said before, we are being invited to be a part of our client's most important celebrations. We make cakes every day, but we also understand that the client only has one birthday a year or one graduation celebration or one baby shower, etc. We are honored to be a small part of their celebrations. We become a tradition within their families…so we also feel like family.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

When I started doing cakes, I created relationships that I had no idea would continue through the years. I began making birthday cakes for one and two-year-olds, and now I'm doing wedding cakes for those same children or birthday cakes for their children.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Knowing when to say no and staying focused on our goals. More recently is finding supplies and having to shift our business in ways we haven't had to before.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Write a business plan and stick to it. It should be a living, breathing document that will help you stay on track.
  2. Own your business, and don't let your business own you. Schedule time off and work. It's okay to take a mental health break once in a while.
  3. Don't be afraid to try new things, and don't be afraid to get rid of the old things that don't work.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

The biggest thing that has helped me in my success is having a good support system from both my family and friends.
