Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Chashan Morin, Owner of Chashan Morin, Ac. - Acupuncture, located in Montréal, QC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am an acupuncturist in Montréal that help people seek harmony within their bodies and minds. I meet my patients in a private office, and together we create a safe space to share an experience that ultimately helps people feel better. One of the things I am grateful for about my job is that I meet people from various backgrounds. Patients are coming to my office for different reasons: muscle pain, stress, anxiety, lifting, insomnia, and digestive troubles... but I would say that most of them are leaving with a very peaceful and stress-released feeling. One of the side effects of acupuncture is releasing neurochemicals that help the mind and body relax and thus restore itself.

Tell us about yourself

I was always interested in people and curious about their world perspectives. I decided to go into acupuncture because it not only holds wisdom that considers our lives as a whole but also because I know I would connect and help people in a meaningful way. I'm beyond grateful to do my job because I see what good things acupuncture brings to people I meet in my office. It also helped me in my personal journey, as I have Chinese roots but never experienced them, as I am an adopted child. Learning about Chinese Medicine allowed me to understand an oriental perspective that was missing in me, and it now makes me want to share it with the world.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

See people getting better. It really is the foundation as to why I chose acupuncture. When patients come into my office, it is a great proof of courage to seek help. I respect that, and I know that it might not always be easy to open up about our health. Witnessing the relationship growing over the session is nice to see and embrace. I feel grateful for their trust, and I am really excited to see the positive changes that happen in the time we are working together.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I would say that for me, the hardest thing is marketing. I am not someone who likes to show off, and, despite Chinese Medicine helping with a wide range of problems, I have trouble putting forward how great it is! When people come to my office, they feel and see how passionate I am and that I hold a sincere way to help them with a different perspective and a variety of tools. I would also say that it is hard to stand out in promoting my services. It might be because of my algorithms, but I feel like acupuncture pages always promote or talk about the same things. In that sense, I feel bad to bother people with another article talking about acupuncture. In my personal life, I rarely am on social media, so doing it for my job is more of a mental load than something fun.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

First, just go! Don't wait for everything to be in place because it never will. Just jump right into it, and things will align. You don't have to know everything by now; it'll settle once you start. Then, allow yourself to make mistakes. Or rather, allow yourself to learn. Perfection does not exist, and the worst that can happen is that you now have more tools to go forward. Lastly, talk with people in your situation! You will soon realize you are not the only one feeling this way and that your struggles can be the same as those of people like you. Chances are, you will help each other grow!
