What's your business, and who are your customers?
I offer an array of quality, eclectic, and intuitive services such as sound therapy, birth care, and holistic wellness. I also offer homemade herbal wellness products. My clients are individuals interested in exploring alternative ways to relax, realign, and restore harmony to their bodies and mind.
Tell us about yourself
I started my business after years of experience in assisting family members and friends with their health. Our daughter was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder at 11 years old that would often leave her unable to get out of bed and in a wheelchair. After numerous doctor's appointments with no progress, I decided it was time to implement the things that I had learned about holistic nutrition and health. My daughter's health drastically improved, and I began to assist others in improving their overall physical, mental, and emotional health. I'm also a mother of five children, and I've had three home births. My home birth experiences led me to become a Doula for other mothers and offer them individualized holistic birth consultations and services. I am honored to have the opportunity to be a part of one of the most sacred moments in their lives and to serve within my community. I am also a certified nutritional coach and sound therapist.
My motivation comes from my family and the clients I serve. When a client tells me they've had the most sleep they've ever had in months after a sound therapy session, I am inspired and motivated. When a pregnant mom tells me that I am now a part of her family and that she will tell her daughter about all the help I gave her throughout her pregnancy and birth, I am inspired and motivated. When I wake up every day and look into my children's eyes, I am motivated. When I see my daughter at 18 years old, no longer having any symptoms from the autoimmune disorder she was diagnosed with and living her best life, I am motivated. My daily motivation and inspiration come from clients' stories about my services and the difference that they have made in their lives. I am truly grateful.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner has been in being able to enrich and educate the lives of my clients. Whether it's educating a client on what sound therapy is and how it heals the body or massaging a mother in labor, being able to share these things with them and watching how it positively affects their lives is amazing to see. It inspires and encourages me to do the work that I do.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things for me, by far, has been learning how to manage the various roles that come along with being a business owner while also being a mother. There are so many roles that come with being a business owner, such as developing marketing campaigns, planning & budgeting, growth, and daily operations. There are also many roles that come with being a mother, such as a caregiver, nurturer, protector, teacher, and doctor. It can be challenging to prioritize these roles and manage so many roles.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- One of the first tips I would give is to be patient. It takes time for a business to grow, and there will be obstacles along the way, but being consistent and able to stay the course is so important.
- The second tip I would give is never to be afraid to ask for help. So often, we think that we can do it all and are afraid to ask for help or reluctant to trust others. I've had to learn and am still learning that I can't do it all. There are business owners and people that want to help. So, don't hesitate to ask.
- The last tip I would give is to be sure to practice self-love and stay grounded. Make time for yourself every day. Implement daily practices that enable you to do whatever it is that relieves stress and keeps you physically, emotionally, and mentally grounded. It will give you the dedication, discipline, and strength that is necessary along the way.
