What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a business coach. I help women of color become impactful leaders in their communities and build successful businesses.

Tell us about yourself

I've been a long-time community leader and activist. I noticed early on that the community depended on local politicians to make decisions that affected our everyday lives and charities, and political campaigns depended on people with deep pockets to fund these charities and initiatives. Usually, these people did not look like my community or me. I wanted to change that. I wanted to help create more women with purpose and deep pockets.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is seeing the amazing success stories of women who have created financial freedom for themselves. But if I was to choose one, is having my kids want to be entrepreneurs too and helping them start their own business.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Making mistakes while maintaining grit and resilience is not for everyone. People quit way too soon. You have to make mistakes over and over again, tweak some things, dust yourself off, and try again. You must figure out what sticks and what doesn't. Eliminate or add, then keep going.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Hire a mentor or coach. It's necessary if you want to grow. Invest in yourself. You have to learn how to master your mind and build your confidence and belief in yourself and your business. You may be a confident person, but you may not be confident in business, and that's ok. It needs to be built or borrowed until you develop your own business confidence. I tell all my clients to borrow my confidence until they develop their own. My coach helped me, so I know how crucial it is.
