What's your business, and who are your customers?

Our business is Champagne & Lace; we are locally owned and operated and have been proudly serving BC and Northwest Washington since January 1986, earning a reputation for superior selection and service. As a bridal, prom, and special events boutique, we offer everything you need for your special occasions, along with fabulous customer service!

Tell us about yourself

I started working at C&L during grade 12 thanks to Gerri Charles, my mentor and original owner of C&L. I began with a little modeling for the shop and then slowly by doing any tasks that were asked of me, so, fortunately, I was provided an unplanned opportunity to learn the business from the ground floor up. Fast forward a few decades, and I am still very passionate about C&L as it has become a family business with my three daughters having involvement in the business. I am very proud of our staff who care so much about our customers.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Day after day, see the smiles and tears of joy from our customers after they find the dress/gown of their dreams. The satisfaction of a customer resonates very deeply with all our staff and me.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

There are always challenges as a business owner, but one of the hardest elements in dealing with the rising business expenses. Not to give any mention to COVID, but WOW, that was a "doosey"

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Creating a realistic business plan with input from your staff. Ensure to include a marketing plan with effective social media platform tools.
  2. Communication is key. Communicating with your staff, your suppliers, and of course, your customers.
  3. Create a positive, transparent, and trustworthy environment for staff. Staffs are the heart and soul of a business, and they are organic marketers. If they are happy and enjoy working at your business, their passion and excitement will spread throughout the community.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Thank you for this opportunity; owning a business is not easy and can be very stressful, but in the end, I love Champagne & Lace with ALL of my heart and appreciate all of the customers who have come and will come through our front doors.
