Stop Fearing the Media, Let It Work for You - Trish Nitschke

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Trish Nitschke, Founder and CEO of Center for Business Communication Excellence, located in Butler, WI, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

The Center for Business Communication Excellence helps small business owners establish their digital marketing foundation. We serve businesses that cannot afford a marketing firm but recognize the importance of branding, social media, email list building and marketing, crisis communication, and utilizing media contacts to grow their business.

Tell us about yourself

I founded the CBCE when I realized, as a marketer and communicator myself, that positions in that field were mostly for medium to large businesses. I find extreme joy in working with business owners who think marketing is too complicated, takes too much time, or just isn't necessary. When they've gone through training sessions and see that it's not only incredibly valuable for their business but that they CAN do it on their own without an extreme amount of effort, those are golden moments for me.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Giving myself permission to build a business. Having confidence in what I do and being able to share that with people everyday is a privilege I don't take lightly.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Time management. Juggling life with business and running all aspects of it is challenging. When you're first starting out, you are the content creator, the developer, the social media person, the accounting department, and HR. You're everything to all people. Finding a healthy balance in all of it isn't easy, but it is attainable.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have a business plan. Know what you want and how you will achieve it.
  2. Spend time working on your branding. Trust me; it will save you oodles of time when it comes to marketing.
  3. Give yourself grace. Growing a business doesn't happen overnight. It's months, likely years, of work before you start seeing solid results. Keep going. Don't stop. Anything worth doing is worth doing well, no matter how long it takes.
