Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ce Eshelman, Owner of The Attach Place Center for Strengthening Relationships, LLC, located in Sacramento, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
The Attach Place Center for Strengthening Relationships, LLC, is an attachment and trauma-focused mental health center. Our clients are seeking recovery from adoption/attachment wounding and childhood trauma. Additionally, we support families, couples, children, and individuals to live fully alive in their lives. Anyone interested in that is welcome here. Love matters is our central unifying theme.
Tell us about yourself
I have been a therapist for nearly 40 years in private practice. When I adopted my two (now adult) children from the foster care system 25 years ago, there was very little information available to help me understand the trauma and attachment wounding my children suffered with. As I traversed the clinical terrain for help, I began to offer what I learned to other parents raising children from difficult beginnings. Eventually, I wrote a book to support other parents and opened The Attach Place, focusing on attachment and trauma recovery. As our center has grown, we have branched out into providing neurofeedback and Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy to further the healing journey of our clients. It is possible to heal from trauma, and our mission is to bring that awareness to all who walk through our doors.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is building a warm, loving environment where people experience felt safety and collaborative support for healing from trauma. The entire staff embraces our mission and personally thrives while doing healing work.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
I love what I do. At the risk of being cliche, working too much is seductive when that is the truth, so learning how to balance work and home life has proven a challenge. I finally think I'm getting it, though. The key for me has been hiring excellent staff who are as good or better than the boss in any given situation and empowering them to use their own best judgment to meet the needs of clients. That way, I don't have to be ever-present for healing to occur.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Be generous. Hire good people. Resist making yourself the center of the company.
