What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is mental health. I offer psychiatric evaluations, medication management, therapy, case management services, and crisis services to children, adolescents, and adults in the community.
Tell us about yourself
I am originally from Connecticut and have traveled across the country to work in mental health from the northeast, even considering working in Alaska. However, after working in Texas for five years, I decided to move back east, where mental health care was more responsible and where people could get better care. I worked for a while in a hospital setting, inpatient and in a partial hospital program for children and adolescents, as well as in outpatient. As I saw the management cared more for money than patients, I decided to leave and open my own practice. I wanted to give the best care I could without being told that I needed to see more and more people.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Being able to help people the way I want to help them. (and the fact that I've survived this long!)
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Keeping up with the bills and the payroll and taxes, etc.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Realize that the more things you delegate out, the more money you are paying out, and the less you will make.
- Understand that if you are going to do this on your own, you will be working 24/7.
- Love what you are going to do because if you don't, you won't do it for long.
