Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ed Cowdrey, Owner of Castle Glen Winery, located in Doswell, VA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are a premium winery. We pride ourselves on being family and dog friendly.
Tell us about yourself
Started making wine about 30 years as a hobby, and it just got out of control. We strive to create a relaxed, fun, and casual experience for our customers.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
We built the business from the ground up. The property was an alfalfa field when we bought it. Every stick, brick, and vine was created by us for our customers.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The most challenging aspects of running a business are taxes and government regulations.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Create everything with the customer experience in mind.
- Plan a big marketing budget
- Do not listen to anyone who says you cannot do it.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
We build our business out of love for people, food, and wine. Follow your dreams, not the money.
