Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Casey Moran, Founder of Beautiful Mind LLC., located in Phoenix, AZ, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I currently have three businesses:
Performance Coaching by Casey Moran - This is my one-on-one coaching service where I help others learn to optimize their life. I work with everyone from the "lost" or "stuck" individual who is looking for some direction or a life reset to C-Suite Executives and Professional Athletes who are looking to sharpen their skills and get to the next level.
TRUE PATH System - TRUE PATH is a complete personal development system that, on the outside, looks like a 13-week goal-setting guide that gives you the Direction, Structure, and Accountability needed to accomplish your goals and become the person you want to be...But it's much, much more than that! TRUE PATH is great for anyone who wants to learn a system that not only manages their life but helps them develop the routines, mindsets, and habits needed to become their best self!
PRO KETO Sweets - A healthy sweets (Keto) company. We create Sugar-Free, Gluten Free and Dairy Free..., but not Taste Free sweets, like Peanut Butter Cups, Donuts, Brownies, Chocolate Chip Cookies, Chocolate Balls, and more. They are all Protein based and Keto friendly. PRO KETO is great for anyone who likes sweets but wants to live a healthy lifestyle. If you are on the keto diet, a diabetic, or allergic to gluten or dairy, these are your answers when it comes to satisfying your sweet tooth.
Tell us about yourself
I knew I was an entrepreneur when I was about 20. I had worked for 27 different people/places by then and didn't like any of them...I finally figured out it wasn't the jobs; it was I didn't like working for anyone else. After I sold my shot glass business, which I started out of college and ran for 14 years, I asked myself, "what do I want to do with the rest of my life?" The answer...help others do what I do...Live Life My Way! So, I started a life coaching service, which first focused on entrepreneurs as that was what I knew best, but at the same time dove into Neuroscience research. I have always been fascinated with the brain and what makes us tick. After about two years of research, reading, and applying the principles to my life, I redirected my coaching emphasis to a more cerebral approach.
At that point, I had to give myself a coaching specialty...I wasn't a relationship coach or business coach, etc. What I did, and do, is teach you the practical steps to retrain your brain. We all have goals and dreams, but in order to accomplish them, you need to rewire your brain, as your current wiring hasn't produced what you desire. So, I label myself a Cognitive Performance Coach as the goal is to help you learn the tips, tricks, and techniques needed to change the way you think, feel, and act to become the person you have always hoped to become. I do this because I know the struggle of going in circles, not progressing or accomplishing what you want, and not understanding why. The joy I get from helping others change their life and start thriving instead of just surviving is the most rewarding feeling for me. When one of my clients wins...I win!
The TRUE PATH System is actually something I developed over about 20 years. It began with me starting my first company. I was still at ASU...partying, undisciplined, and had no idea how to start a company. So, I sat at my desk one night and wrote down what I was going to do the next day. I woke up and followed the list, crossing each item off as I accomplished them. At the end of the day, I had accomplished more than I normally did in a week. After studying the brain and how it works, I began to apply different neuroscience principles to my system. I wanted to share this system with others as it had done wonders for my life, so as any entrepreneur would do, I did a Kickstarter campaign and had the system made into a book.
Finally, Pro Keto Sweets was created accidentally as I was trying to find something healthy to eat between clients to keep me cognitively and physically on point. I had never baked anything before, so I looked up a banana nut recipe to reference and then threw protein powder and some other healthy ingredients I had around in a muffin tin. Not good! It was dry and tasteless, but I was eating for a purpose. As a creative, I kept making and tweaking it...after about nine months, my friends and family told me to sell them because they were that good. I said, "I'm not going to go sell cookies" As an entrepreneur if you think something has legs, you have to test it. So, I called a farmers market, spent $200 on ingredients...sold out...made $500, reinvested for the next week, and the rest is history.
I'm a self-proclaimed "sugar addict" and have been my entire life. I quit sugar about five years ago as it is one of the most harmful subsistence on earth...in my opinion. Not going to get into that here. So, I quit sugar but wasn't going to quit sweets, so I just started making healthy versions of the things I liked. Peanut Butter Cups, Brownies, etc. It was probably a good thing I didn't have a baking background, or I probably wouldn't have come up with the combos I did.
The sweets business is very synergistic with my coaching practices as food, what you put into your body, is one of my three main pillars in life. So, that's a bit about me, my businesses, and, to sum up, what motivates me each day...passion! My love and passion are helping others live better lives. I know how to do it and love teaching others and then watching them grow and thrive in life.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I would say paying my bills...ha! I haven't had a "job" in over 20 years, and it is because I create, market, and everything else that is involved in running a business. I have been able to live a good life with things that I create from a thought. We all have thoughts and ideas, but it is the true entrepreneur who takes that and does the work to make it something real.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Uncertainty. The fact that everything is on your shoulders and you are ultimately responsible for keeping your business not just growing but alive! COVID was a great example. I remember I signed a contract with a kitchen for the company of my sweet in January, and in March, the world shut down. In June, after COVID had hit, I remember telling my kitchen landlord that this was going to wipe out so many, but true entrepreneurs will find a way to make it through. (Now, I understand there are exceptions).
Dealing with the adversities that come as an entrepreneur can be daunting. But, I live by the mindset..." there are no problems, only solutions," and when you can adopt this way of thinking and truly live by it... problems, obstacles, etc., are really just opportunities. It's up to you! So, to finish with uncertainty...as an entrepreneur, you aren't showing up to work, collecting a paycheck, getting health insurance, etc. You are responsible for "everything," and the certainty and safety of making it to the next level, or even just making it through the next month, is uncertain.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Make sure you are passionate about whatever it is you are going to do, as you will be doing it 24/7 most of the time, especially at first. If you don't love it...that is a miserable life, and you are probably doomed to fail.
- Take Action! Don't wait until the "time is right" or "perfect," or you'll never start it. Just jump in and begin whatever it is. Even small actions lead to bigger actions, etc. But, it is that first action step that is the hardest. So, Jump, and the rest will take care of themselves.
- Ask for help. This is one of my "challenges" as I tend to want to do everything...as "I know best" This is not true, no matter how much you think you know. So, don't waste hours, days, weeks, etc., learning to do something when there are plenty of other people out there that have already done it and can do it better and save you "time"...the most precious resource.
