Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Casey Jacox, Founder of Winning The Relationship, LLC, located in Maple Valley, WA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I'm the author of the book, "Win the Relationship, Not the Deal." The book teaches six core principles of how to win relationships in your personal and professional lives. Since publishing my book, coaching has found me. I'm now providing sales & leadership coaching to sales teams and leaders of companies across various industries (Wealth Management, Staffing, Consulting, Marketing, Professional sports, Golf, Software, and Higher Education. Lastly, I run a podcast for fathers called "The Quarterback DadCast." The podcast's purpose is to unlock our gaps as fathers and improve our leadership skills inside our homes so we can be the best dad we can be.
Tell us about yourself
I'm a former college QB who took that drive into my business career. I spent nearly 20 years in the technical staffing & consulting space and had way more success than I ever could've imagined. I was surrounded by incredible teammates, clients, and leaders that helped me achieve elite-level selling results, and I was our top salesperson nationally for ten consecutive years. My coaching and speaking business was started during a global pandemic. Perfect time...right?!!! Yes, because I had to be gritty and use my resilience to keep going. What motivates me each day is serving others and sharing my experience (failure and success) to help others learn lessons more quickly than me. I love meeting new people and teaching what I call a "boomerang mindset." The power of this mindset is to serve others without keeping score. They will always come back to you if you throw enough boomerangs of service.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment would be twofold. First, setting the goal of writing a book and seeing it published on Amazon with over 100 organic reviews. Second, being asked to be a keynote speaker for The TaylorMade Golf Company was a huge highlight.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest part is that I'm in charge of every department. Additionally, working on scaling the business and always asking myself what my end goal is. Where do I want to go next? Am I on the right path?
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
The three areas of advice I would give anyone would be to stay curious. Always ask questions and surround yourself with others who can help you see your blind spots. Second, be vulnerable to know that you don't have all the answers. We are all flawed human beings, and being self-aware to own that is so freeing and also a great sign of leadership. Lastly, I would stay humble because life will always humble you when you're not ready for it. One of the best pieces of advice I received in my life was in the form of a question: "Do you want to be right or get what you want?" Powerful advice that always forces me to check my ego at the door!
