What's your business, and who are your customers?
My name is Cary Pennington, and I own Cary Pennington Photography, a San Diego-based photography studio that specializes in headshots, family portraits, weddings, and commercials. My customers are entrepreneurs, attorneys, doctors, professionals, and business owners needing photography for their businesses.
Tell us about yourself
I grew up around cameras and musical instruments; my father was a hobbyist, so I took a liking to the old cameras he had and took photos with them. It became a passion for recording what I envision, may it be landscapes or people; I really enjoy photography as a creative outlet.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Having my images been used on the covers of magazines and throughout several magazines as editorial pieces and ads. Also, being able to support my family with my photography career.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Marketing, looking for new business. Taking risks!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Do your research into the field or industry you're about to enter. Learn as much about it before you start your business.
- Build your community/network.
- Be a solution to people's problems.
