Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Carrie Cotch, Life & Leadership Coach of Carrie Jo Coaching, located in Elk River, MN, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a Certified Life and Leadership Coach based in Minneapolis. I mentor and coach sales and marketing teams to increase performance, and many others are going through difficult times in their lives. My approach helps people gain confidence, overcome obstacles, navigate change & find what truly sets their souls on fire so they can live more fulfilled lives.

I am also an expert in helping clients navigate life’s transitions. Whether they want to upgrade their relationships, career, finances, or health or looking to achieve a big goal in their lives, I offer support and coaching tailored to specific needs. I assist people who are feeling lost, confused, conflicted or stressed by finding their purpose and light within. I help my clients find true happiness by increasing their self-awareness and self-esteem and teaching them to advocate for themselves in both their work and personal lives. By setting goals and creating a step-by-step process for how to reach them, clients feel supported to achieve success.

Tell us about yourself

I started coaching after my daughter had a liver transplant. It was then that I realized that life is short, and I wanted to help others live happier and more fulfilled lives.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is starting my business while working a full-time job.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

There never seems to be enough time in the day. So really prioritizing and spending time on what will bring value to my business is key. It’s easy to get side-tracked or go down a rabbit hole.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Understand your “why.”
  2. Understand your customer and what sets your business apart from the competition.
  3. Stay focused on what will bring value to your business.

Understanding your passion for why you started your business will always bring you back to the center — back to what really matters. Understanding your customer, their challenges, and how your business or service can solve those problems builds a strong relationship with your customers. And if you stay focused, you’ll spend less time spinning your wheels on stuff that doesn’t matter and more time moving the needle.
