Reconnect to Your Body’s Needs - Carrarini Nutrition
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Marissa-Catherine Carrarini, Founder of Carrarini Nutrition, located in London, United Kingdom.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a nutritional therapist, and I work in mental health. I work with a lot of clients who have disordered eating and addiction issues. I work with these issues in and of themselves and the resulting physical symptoms. I have a private practice, and I also do group work with other therapists.
Tell us about yourself
I qualified as a nutritional therapist in 2010 and have always wanted to work with people struggling with their emotional well-being. I am also a feminist and feel that true health is about a calm, free, and whole-person-focused way of eating instead of ever being about diet-culture or rule-based eating.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is working with such talented and inspiring colleagues. I am really proud that many interesting & talented people with important opinions on mental health recovery want to work alongside me to create valuable spaces for others to recover.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
I find the more administrative side of the job very challenging. I'm dyslexic, and I have dyscalculia. Both of these issues make very simple tasks feel quite overwhelming, and I work hard to manage the shame of making "silly mistakes" or getting confused over basic tasks. I am the first to admit where I struggle. Therefore, I employ others to help me and/or have open discussions with those I work with - including clients - so that I am met with compassion or understanding, not judgment.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Take a risk.
- Accept failure and change the path - not everything you want to do will be a success.
- Ask for help - no one can do everything perfectly. Where are your strengths and struggles? Asking for help or paying someone to help you will save time, keep you healthy & sane, and will be profitable in the end.
